Ridgeland High School
Rhythm of the Ridges Band

We are delighted to have you as a part of the Ridgeland High School Band Boosters!

The Band Booster is a volunteer organization which was created to support our band.  Each person involved is a volunteer and gives of their own time to advance our children’s experience in band.

The Band Boosters hold monthly meetings, usually on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 PM in the band room.  Please join us each month as we discuss all things relating to band.  It’s a great way for you to stay informed and up to date on schedule changes, events, and to show support for your child’s activities and interests.

Like all good volunteer organizations, we need volunteers for it all to work!  There are many opportunities for you and we appreciate everything that is done for the band.  With everyone doing something, it makes it all a little easier for everybody.  All parents are encouraged to attend meetings, get to know other band parents, be involved and participate in all functions of the Band Booster organization.  Ways in which you can participate are:

§        Attend monthly booster meetings

§        Band booster officer elections take place in the spring for the upcoming school year.

§        Serve on a committee – such as fundraising committee, concession committee, phone call list, uniform committee

§        Help in concessions at home games – this is our main fundraiser and our greatest need

§        Participate in fundraisers – agree to sell candy bars, fruit baskets, sonic cards

§        Attend Spirit Nights at local restaurants such as Pizza Hut and Chick-fil-a

§        Be positive and proactive with your child and their participation in Band

Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions, we welcome your input!

For your information

  • Student Health/Permission forms are required for all members in order to travel with the band.  These forms need to be completed with a NOTARIZED signature of the parent/guardian.  These forms must be returned by Wednesday of band camp

  • Donations of cases of water are needed throughout the marching season.  Please donate water for our kids to have in the stands at all home games.  Please bring to the band room.  Thank you!

  • Each Friday in which we have a game (home or away), please ensure that your child has eaten.  We want to ensure that they eat before the games begin as they are not allowed to eat in uniform.

  • Kids are expected to behave appropriately on buses.  While we have chaperones on the buses, each child is expected to behave in a manner that is acceptable.

  • Please be sure to pick up and drop off your child on time for all band functions.  We do not want to leave children alone and unattended however, we need to be sure that parents are doing their part as well!  Thank you!

  • Your child will need to wear black socks with their band uniform.  Many kids leave an extra pair with their uniform, just in case.  Band shirts are worn under uniforms.

  • Fair Shares – this is your child’s band fee and is $175 for marching season and $50.00 for concert band annually.  This annual fee of $225.00 is to covers their band shirt, uniform, cleaning and upkeep, transportation and participation in competitions.  These fees are for color guard and instrument playing band members.  There are ways to help offset this fee outlined on the next page and you can pay on a monthly basis if you wish.

  • Student Band Account – an individual account is set up for each child in band when they join.  Fees, instrument rental fees, instrument repairs, etc. are deducted from the account.  A detailed monthly statement is provided.  All payments into your child’s band account or for other items, should be placed into a sealed envelope and placed into the box in the band room.  Please be sure to write your child’s name on the front of the envelope and description of the payment (fair shares, tshirt order, DCI trip etc.)

  • Panther Pit Crew – a group of volunteers who help to load and unload trailers at games and competitions.  The pit crew also helps during the halftime show to get equipment on and off the field and is always in need of volunteers during this time as well.  Please see contact information on next page.

  • The band plans a trip in the spring.  The cost of the trip is typically $300 to $400 per person and is optional.  Incremental payments are required and may be offset by fundraiser monies which go directly to the student’s account.

  • Band members purchase their own dress/tuxedo for concert band.

Facebook , website and email list – please be sure to add yourself to both of these lists.  We use this as a form of communication to keep you updated.  Also, it gives you the opportunity to communicate with the Band Boosters.  Feel free to ask questions, sign up for concessions or send suggestions.

Email – send an email to Leann Forester (click on her name) and e-mail her to add your name.

Fundraisers

Band Boosters work throughout the year to raise money to support our band.  Listed below are the fundraisers and if they credit the boosters general account or to your child’s personal band account.  Those fundraisers that credit your child’s personal band account will help offset the fair shares and other direct expenses.  A monthly statement of your child’s band account is provided.

Bi – Lo Scan Cards (general):  please be sure to receive one at a Booster Meeting.  It is connected to your Bi – Lo card and donates 1% of purchases to our band.  Feel free to provide scan cards to friends and family too!

Food Lion Scan Cards (general):  please email your name and card number to to the elected cair person over funding raising.  We’ll let Food Lion know that you support Ridgeland Band Boosters.  Food Lion donates 1% of purchases to our band.

Sonic Cards (band account):  Sonic donated cards to us so the total amount of sales go directly to your child’s band account ($5 each card).

Spirit Nights (general):  Held throughout the year at local restaurants.

Fruit Sale (band account):  Each year we sell fruit boxes just in time for the holiday.  This is a very popular sale and is planned for the beginning of November

Ham and Turkey Dinner (general):  This is a wonderful community wide event in which we provide a ham and turkey dinner at Ridgeland for a small fee (TBA).  We also work with Toys for Tots and ask each student to donate an unwrapped toy.  Our community supports our band throughout the year and it’s our opportunity to give back.  This is scheduled TBA.

Silent Auction and BBQ (general):  This event is scheduled for April/May 2011 and is under development and needs volunteers.

Chattanooga Lookouts and Lake Winnie (band account):  Work concessions at each of these businesses and receive payment directly to your child’s band account.  You are “paid” an hourly wage and can have several people working on your behalf.

Home game concessions (general):  We need 25 volunteers for each home game at Ridgeland.  This is our band’s primary way to raise funds..
